(Overview) An Overview of XAT, FMS, SNAP, IIFT

An Overview of XAT, FMS, SNAP, IIFT
CAT Entrance exam is about to be finished in one day, now Its time to focus on other major Management Entrance exam like XAT, SNAP, FMS, IIFT etc which are going to be held on coming days of the season. Each entrance exam has its own level and identity so the candidates should have separate strategies for separate exam keeping in mind the difficulty level of of particular exam. To make the strategies for entrance exams, candidates should know about the exams and major and minor differences among them.
Xavier Admission Test (XAT) Conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur
The Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur conducts the Xavier Admission Test (XAT). The XAT is conducted for admission to Post-Graduate degree programmes in Management at XLRI, XIM, XISS, LIBA etc. XAT 2010 was more difficult than CAT or any other entrance last season. With the progressive negative marking, a few decision making caselets clubbed with a difficult logical reasoning section, the focus being on verbal logic rather than knowledge and an essay to be written at the end made it a mouth-watering proposition for any serious aspirant.
The total duration of XAT is two hours. The total number of question in XAT is 200. This test is divided into 3 sections.
- Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation: The data interpretation section in XAT 2010 can be best described in one word -un-do-able. With lengthy calculations and close options, these questions were better left unattended to considering that the rest of the section was pretty much do-able. Not much of a focus on heavy math concepts and pretty much everything could be done with a skill-set of basic formulae.
- Logical Reasoning & Decision Making: The logical reasoning section is tough and takes time but the decision making section is subjective and might get you a larger number of incorrect answers in a short span of time. Nothing outrageously different from other management entrance tests.
- Verbal Aptitude: This section, last year had a good mix of questions right from RCs, critical reasoning, FIJs, parajumbles, word usage, vocabulary and even an advertisement. The difficulty level was high and one had to be a bit cautious about the negative marking part and not overdo guesswork.
