MBA Entrance Exam: Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET)
Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) is the first step in the process of admission to the TWO YEAR FULL TIME Postgraduate Degree Programmes in Management offered by the IITs. Currently IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee offer Programmes in Management.
JMET is only a qualifying examination. Candidates have to apply separately to the Institutes of their choice. They are also advised to look up the admission details provided in the respective websites of the participating Institutes. There is no limit to the number of programmes a candidate can apply to, so long as he or she meets the eligibility criteria.
The results of JMET provide a basis to each participating Institute to shortlist potential candidates for conducting its own selection processes like, Group Discussion/Interview etc. However, calling the candidates for such later process of selection is the prerogative of the admitting Institute. Candidates should note that the final selection would depend on their performance in each of the components of the selection process.
JMET qualified candidates may contact the management departments/schools of the concerned institutes for additional information. It may be noted that the GATE/JMET offices will not respond to queries on the admission procedure.
JMET Test Structure:
Test Duration: 3 Hours

Moreover, for a candidate to be qualified in JMET 2011, he/she should not only secure certain minimum marks in the test paper but also should necessarily obtain certain minimum marks in each of the four sections stated above.

Indian Institute of Management
Ahmedabad
Vastrapur, Ahmedabad 380015
Gujarat, INDIA
About Institute:
IIMA has evolved from being India's premier management institute to a notable international school of management in just four decades.
It all started with Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and a few spirited industrialists realising that agriculture, education, health, transportation, population control, energy and public administration were vital elements in a growing society, and that it was necessary to efficiently manage these industries.
The result was the creation of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in 1961 as an autonomous body with the active collaboration of the Government of India, Government of Gujarat and the industrial sectors.
It was evident that to have a vision was not enough. Effective governance and quality education were seen as critical aspects.
From the very start the founders introduced the concept of faculty governance: all members of the faculty play an important role in administering the diverse academic and non-academic activities of the Institute. The empowerment of the faculty has been the propelling force behind the high quality of learning experience at IIMA.
Objectives:
- To provide learning facilities to men and women of exceptional caliber for pursuing careers in management or becoming teachers and researchers in different management fields.
- To promote knowledge through research, both applied and conceptual, relevant to management, and to disseminate such knowledge through publications.
- To participate in and contribute to the formulation of public policy, which would provide answers to questions of social importance.
- To enhance the decision-making skills and the administrative competence of practicing managers and assist organizations to solve their managerial problems by providing them with consulting services based on actual requirements.
- To collaborate with other institutions in India and abroad with a view to further professionalizing management education and assisting in institution building, in a meaningful manner.
(Overview) An Overview of XAT, FMS, SNAP, IIFT

An Overview of XAT, FMS, SNAP, IIFT
CAT Entrance exam is about to be finished in one day, now Its time to focus on other major Management Entrance exam like XAT, SNAP, FMS, IIFT etc which are going to be held on coming days of the season. Each entrance exam has its own level and identity so the candidates should have separate strategies for separate exam keeping in mind the difficulty level of of particular exam. To make the strategies for entrance exams, candidates should know about the exams and major and minor differences among them.
Xavier Admission Test (XAT) Conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur
The Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur conducts the Xavier Admission Test (XAT). The XAT is conducted for admission to Post-Graduate degree programmes in Management at XLRI, XIM, XISS, LIBA etc. XAT 2010 was more difficult than CAT or any other entrance last season. With the progressive negative marking, a few decision making caselets clubbed with a difficult logical reasoning section, the focus being on verbal logic rather than knowledge and an essay to be written at the end made it a mouth-watering proposition for any serious aspirant.
The total duration of XAT is two hours. The total number of question in XAT is 200. This test is divided into 3 sections.
- Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation: The data interpretation section in XAT 2010 can be best described in one word -un-do-able. With lengthy calculations and close options, these questions were better left unattended to considering that the rest of the section was pretty much do-able. Not much of a focus on heavy math concepts and pretty much everything could be done with a skill-set of basic formulae.
- Logical Reasoning & Decision Making: The logical reasoning section is tough and takes time but the decision making section is subjective and might get you a larger number of incorrect answers in a short span of time. Nothing outrageously different from other management entrance tests.
- Verbal Aptitude: This section, last year had a good mix of questions right from RCs, critical reasoning, FIJs, parajumbles, word usage, vocabulary and even an advertisement. The difficulty level was high and one had to be a bit cautious about the negative marking part and not overdo guesswork.
