Summer Placements at FMS-Delhi Offered 'a Choice of Plenty' to its Students
The recently concluded summer placements at FMS-Delhi reiterated the overwhelming confidence of the corporate sector in the students of the institute. With 70 leading companies from different sectors to choose from, it definitely was a pleasant choice of plenty for the students.
For year on year, the institute has been growing; both in capabilities and opportunities for students with the expanding varieties of jobs that they love to do. Summers 2007 were an expression of this same confidence; with students getting offers for varied roles and locations.
The highlight of Summer 2007 Placements has been a 400% increase in the number of international offers made by companies. While new international companies like Lufthansa, Sharaf Group, FMC Technologies, IKEA and KPMG Middle East participated in this year’s process, Indian heavyweights like Hindustan Unilever Limited, Procter & Gamble, Tata Administrative Services, ICICI Bank and IDG Ventures made a host of international offers for a variety of roles overseas. As many as 20 international offers were made to the students pursuing the two full-time programs: 91 in the MBA program and 42 in the MBA-MS (Management of Services) program.
In addition to the regular recruiters, 2007 saw the entry of bigwigs like BNP Paribas, KPMG Middle East, Lufthansa, Vodafone, Sharaf Group, FMC Technologies and the like. Companies like Accenture, KPMG, ABN AMRO, Langham Capital and GE were the other legacy recruiters who participated in the process.
Finance
The financial sector continues to lure students in large numbers and FMS' reputation as a finance big-wig stood validated again. 17% of the batch opted for profiles with leading banks. Premier Banks like BNP Paribas, HSBC, Standard Chartered, Citibank, ABN AMRO, Bank of America, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, American Express and IndusInd Bank reaffirmed their relationship with the campus. Apart from them, this sector also saw participation from investment banking firms like Langham Capital, Singhi Advisors and Tata Capital, fund managers like Zeus Fund and TSI Ventures, and real estate developers like CapitaLands which offered international profiles.
Marketing
FMS has long since enjoyed the reputation of being a marketing campus and this season was definitely no exception. Industry giants like HUL, P&G, Cadburys, ITC, Colgate Palmolive, GSK, Britannia, Pepsi, Coca Cola, SAB Miller, Reckitt Benckiser, Dabur, Nestle, Reebok, Heinz, Castrol and Tata Motors participated in the process and made multiple offers. HUL further added to the excitement by offering exclusive international marketing and finance postings across Netherlands and South East Asia. 16% of the batch decided to join the FMCG giants for their summer internships.
Consulting & General Management
Summers 2007 saw the participation of many leading consulting firms like Accenture, KPMG (India & Middle East) and Mercer. Many other companies like TAS, Sharaf Group, Frost & Sullivan, RPG Group and industrial group DCM Shriram (DSCL) offered profiles in consulting and general management. Vodafone, IBM, Yahoo, Essar and Lufthansa also offered roles in strategy and management consulting. A good 18% of the batch opted for a variety of roles in this sector, establishing FMS as the desired destination for consulting firms.
IT Consulting
The IT sector saw handsome participation from global heavyweights like Microsoft, Yahoo!, IBM, SAP-VE, Cognizant, Mindtree Consulting and Wipro. GE also offered its highly reputed Information Management Leadership Program (IMLP) and picked up 2 students. Approximately, 10% of the batch opted for IT profile for their summers. Candidates showed a clear inclination for choosing challenging profiles over lucrative stipends offered by companies.
The Placement Convener, Dr. Madhu Vij, said, "The summer internship program at FMS provides students with an ideal platform to explore the various verticals and domains. We help them make the right decision by offering them plenty of choices with respect to both companies and profiles. The summer placements at FMS this year have broken all past records. The number of international offers by MNCs and Indian companies has increased manifold. The companies were extremely happy with the quality of students and in many cases have ended up making more offers than what they intended to."
"Summer Internship is the nursery for the future business leaders to bloom. The type of assignments that FMS interns are being offered by the cream of the corporate world is quite astounding and reflects great faith in the capabilities of our students," said Prof. J. K. Mitra, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi.
