ATMA 2004 Analysis
The ATMA 2004 paper did not have many surprises as was expected and the students who wrote the exam felt the paper was easy. However, the fact that a student has to get a very good score in excess of 100 to get into the top management institutes under ATMA will make a wee-bit difficult than most students anticipate.
Quantitative Section
This section had 35 questions of Arithmetic and 35 questions on Data Sufficiency. Some of the arithmetic questions and a host of DS questions were repeated from previous CAT papers especially CAT 2001 paper. This was a bit of a pleasant surprise and students preparing for CAT would have solved it in a jiffy. A good student could have attempted close to 50 plus questions and getting a score of 35 is very much possible. In fact, some very good students can get in the range of 50 Plus marks.
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
Here too, some questions especially the inappropriate word usage questions were straight from the CAT 2001 paper giving that extra edge to those having gone through that paper. Most of the questions were of the pattern of CAT and hence it was a good test to write before the CAT on Feb 15th. A good student could have attempted easily 50 Plus questions in the given hour and getting a score of 40+ is possible.
Reasoning
There were 5 sets of Analytical ability, 1 set on Syllogism, 1 set on Venn Diagram and 17 questions on Assumption/Premise/Conclusion/Argument (APCA) type of questions. The analytical ability questions were easily solvable. However the APCA type of questions can leave many a student stumped and there is chance of getting many mistakes in this area. A good student can attempt around 45 questions and can get around 30 plus marks.
