Overall analysis:

JMET-06 (which stands for Joint Management Entrance Test, offered by IITs for their management programmes) was along similar lines as the one conducted in 2005 with slight differences in the English and the Quantitative Ability sections. JMET-06 was a relief to all those students whose Achilles heel is higher mathematics as the number of questions from this area was comparatively less and a proper selection of the easier questions could have ensured a good score. There was no significant change in terms of structure or types of questions or their level of difficulty. English section was with a higher level of difficulty with ambiguity involved in some of the answer choices for certain questions. While the overall cutoffs are typically different for different IITs, the sectional cutoffs are likely to be the same or very close to each other for all the institutes and the same are therefore likely to be quite low.

This section was a nice mix of questions of all difficulty levels: easy, moderate and difficult. Closeness of choices in the answer-choices for some of the questions could be attributed as the main reason of the comparatively lower cutoffs in this section. Attempting more number of RC passages (each of nearly 400 words) with 3-4 questions following each and attempting a mix of grammar and analogy questions would have ensured a higher number of attempts. Equal weightage was given to both Verbal Ability and RC in this section.
