Review of FMS - 2007

Section 3: Analytical and Logical Reasoning

This was without a doubt, the most difficult section of the paper. One could be foxed into thinking how easy the set was without really getting anywhere once having started the problem. The sets on match scheduling and dice outcome were particularly tricky. At the same time the sets on the 4 girls studying 4 different subjects, cities and what they are particularly renowned for were relatively simple and should have been attempted.

Section 4: Quantitative Aptitude/ Data Interpretation

There was an increase in the level of difficulty as compared to the previous years. The paper also involved some concepts of “higher math”. There were questions on permutations, probability, series, progressions etc. Even then, the level of difficulty when compared to most management entrances (such as CAT, IIFT, XAT) was relatively lower. The section essentially tested how fast one could think under the obvious time constraint.

The two 5-Question DI sets were absolute sitters. It would have been hard not to get all the 10 questions correct in these sets. Ideally, this section should have constituted a substantial percentage of your overall score.

With an overall cut-off that is expected to be as high as this, the number of attempts was of paramount importance. 100 attempts with an accuracy of about 85% would have sufficed to see one through to the next stage of the selection process.
