The Selection Process in MBA
To get admission into MBA institutes there are various entrance exams like the premier Common Admission Test (CAT), XAT (the XLRI Admission Test), Management Aptitude Test (MAT), AIMS Test For Management Admission (ATMA) and ICET, and self-styled tests conducted by universities. In all the IIMs, selection is through CAT. Apart from these, there are some institutes like Amity that have their own entrance exams i.e AMCAT (for Amity). Likewise, for Symbiosis there is Symbiosis National Aptitude Program (SNAP).
Among all these, CAT and MAT are the most sought after by MBA institutes. After clearing the entrance exam, there will be the next steps: Group Discussion and Interview. Find separate discussions on these topics elsewhere on this management portal.
Dr Sahay of IMT Ghaziabad says, "We starting using CAT scores three years back. We give a lot of importance to CAT score and basic education performance. We prefer students with at least one year of experience. During interview and GD, we look at general awareness, personality, leadership quality and communications."
Dr Ratnam of IMI says, "The major change that we have made this year is to drop CAT scores as weightages for final selection. We will use CAT scores as a short-listing tool only. We will now give more weightage to the previous scholastic record of a candidate."
There are a large numbers of coaching institutes, which 'prepare' you to for these entrances: the IMS Learning Centre, TIME, Professional Tutorials, ROOTs, and Career Launchers etc.
